The woman in the wall

Sandlekirk is a remote Scottish village haunted by secrets. Rumours of monsters accompany disappearances and early deaths. Nobody from the local area is willing to move there and Sandlekirk is decaying around its elderly inhabitants.

Into this dying place comes outsider Jac Thompson, an uptight, just-fired accountant, accompanied by her recovering alcoholic father, Rick, who has wangled his way back into her life just when she least wants him.

When Jac and her father discover a skeleton in the wall of the cottage it aborts more than their attempts at renovation. Their attempts to relate to one another flounder as Rick conceals the skeleton, against Jac's will. Jac takes out her frustration in a search for the identity of the skeleton, uncovering secrets the village has long tried to keep quiet. In the process she also uncovers a few other secrets that hit much closer to home.

Like her cottage, Jac's life is built on bones. And not all of them are silent…
